must have been an early attempt to build something like what evolved into our present day rotary cutters.

safety tip, be sure that blade had stopped turning before getting off the tractor.

Man that is a Bad Idea for sure ! It amazes me sometimes what they built back then, It worked but look out ! It's still hard to believe someone back then thought that was a good idea and harder to believe they built and sold it. The Safety Police would have a field day with this one so would the lawyers! Maybe after looking at it closer, as you stepped off the tractor your foot would have been forward of the blade,
This thing would still throw sticks rocks, whatever up at you,

my old cutter has thrown sticks up at me on the tractor, I know I need to add one of those rubber or chain front guards,

My cutter has throw wire into the rear tires and hit me with sticks, and it has a shield.
