JD 435 Round Baler?

I'm in the market for a round baler, and am interested in a JD 435 that's for sale locally. I don't really know much about round balers. What's the thoughts on this machine? Any problems I should be looking for with them? Do they make good solid bales, etc?

Thanks for any insights on it.

I have run 400-500 bales thru a John Deere 430 baler for the last 4 years and it has been trouble free for me. I believe a 435 is just newer. Only problem I had is in real heavy hay my V-Rake made the window too big and my "hired" help (my wife) had some difficulty! Makes a nice bale for my beef cows but I had an New Idea before this so anything would be tight compared to those little bales. I can't give you any imput on the monitor as we use it without one as it didn't have one when we got it and it works fine without one. Thought about getting one but haven't figured why I need it!

The 435 will make rock solid bales as long as the tension cylinders & valve are not leaking internally if bale tension valve is closed down. JD 4 ft wide rd balers are basically the same from model 430 to present model except for mega-wide pick up models. If starting a core becomes a problem one needs to add welding beads to metal starter roll.

Good baler. Look the belts over good and check the belt lacing. I run mine with the monitor and would not run it without monitor.

From what I've discovered years ago on my 435, I would check the ends of the tension arm that moves up while the bale is developing to see if the out side belts are wearing on the arm. To do this hook up a tractor and raise the gate as if kicking out a bale, lock the manual safety valve and then as you try to lower the gate the only thing that should move is the tension arm. This way you can get a good look at both sides. I look at mine at the beginning of every year. It does have a wear plate that can be replace.

Still its a very good baler.
