Ok. Can't find my old post about my 1020 tractor so I have to start over. I just purchased a John Deere 825 plow for my John Deere 1020. It looks awful big for my tractor. Almost like its going to be a whale humping a football.
Does anyone agree that this plow will work on my tractor?

Pretty big for your small tractor. Best find a two bottom instead. And NO, It wont work right if you simply remove the rear bottom.I assume your tractor is Category 1(7/8 pins).I know the plow is category 2(1 1/8 pins). A good rule of thumb is your tractor will pull one LESS bottom with a two way plow. We figure it takes 25-30 horse per bottom in our heavy irrigated soils. And we haven't even touched on how HEAVY those old plows are.......BTW,I started farming in '78 with a JD 730 diesel and a 825(3x14). 3rd gear was normal plow gear, and I had to put several hundred pounds up front.

If you have a three bottom 825 and want to change it to a two bottom that can be done, it just depends on how much work you would like to do. The amount of work also depends on if your plow has tail wheels or long landsides. If you would like to do that we will need to email because my explanation will be long and with a lot of part numbers so that we can keep things straight. It is easy in my head. If you want to change a two bottom to a single bottom that is not possible if you want it to work right unless you can find good one bottom beams. The biggest problem with the 825 F835/845 plows is the front roll over motor. Most of them that I have opened up need a lot of work or parts to put them back together and most of the parts, except the seals, are hard to find now. The one that I am finishing up now I had to turn the end plates because the pin that holds the movable vane had broken and messed up both end plates. I was going to post a picture to turning the end plate but I can not get it to upload at this time.
Thanks
Ken

Our other 1020 came with a 2 bottom rollover. I have no clue what it's size was. My father is no longer with us so I can't ask him.
What I wanted is a rollover plow with 14" shears.

Usually (to drop a Bottom), you Remove t5he Second Moldboard assembly, remove the rear outside Beam and move the REAR one up to the next forward position..

That is how the "F-Model" JD Plows are made and how it is done on them..
