$100 experiment

I am expecting to replace my barn in the next two years and was looking for an inexpensive way to store the implements.

I had the steel pipe and some posts used for grapes spaced about 30 feet apart.

The two 20x30 foot tarp were $40 each from Harbor Freight. I also needed two packages of tie downs which were about $20.

I may need to do something on the ends to protect it from the wind.

Neat idea. Great winter storage.

Ends should be ok if the prevailing wind doesn't blow into the end.

A couple or 3 posts on each end with a smaller tarp stretched between the posts should close off each end. Or could also use some wood panels (plywood?) between the end posts. Wind getting under a tarp is the most common cause of failure.

You need the ends stretched too. Wind will mess that up as is. Anything that can flutter without some pull on it will fail in the wind, just a given.

Neat idea tho, and you are 90% there.

I have done something sort of like that but with PVC pipe and a tarp or plastic

Leaving the ends status quo will keep condensation from forming. As stated, if the ends don't face prevailing winds you are fine.

I have done this with my New Idea Picker/Sheller. The tarp does not go al the way to the ground so it is vented around the bottom. I also run a heat lamp inside the tarp to keep the metal above the dew point. I have also done this with tractors. So far it seems to work well. You may need some mouse/critter control. Paul

Looks good as is, easy temporary way to get something under cover and keep enough air flow around it to prevent condensation or moisture build up. Critters may still like it, maybe some dryer sheets, mint extract or similar to keep the mice out.

Genius. I keep getting the tail wagging the dog. i've tried keeping tarps ON the equip which was soso. I amgoing to try this when i get the time and $ to do this. This is exactly ! what i need right now. Thanks for posting :D

Everyone should be so concerned with their equipment. It looks drier there than here. Here, the ground gets so wet, it can cause issues from the bottom up.

So here's another thought. If you're going to build in the future, how about choosing and preparing the site with excavation/gravel? Even if uncovered in season, it makes for a nice place to park machinery. Then you could cover it up there until you build.
