When did they start making throw away plow lays? My Dad bought new dearborn plow in 1951 it had throw away lays. And i had an oliver plow with throw away lays. Throw away lays, plow points, shares whatever they are called your part of the country are the kind you use until they wear out and throw them in the iron pile. thanks guess i,m thinking spring when we used to plow.

Pretty sure it was late 40s.Oliver introduced the 'Raydex' share.Oliver Heritage magazine did a story about that a few years ago.

Oliver was one of the first with its Raydex line, 1938 or 1939. John Deere introduced the HS plow bottom with a throw-away lay in 1953 (according to Tyler the plow guy), and IH came along with the Super Chief bottom in 1957 or 1958.

And then they had these transitional designs with a separate point and separate share thinking you would replace two points to one share. MM had a version of this and IH had the Plow Chief bottom introduced in 1950. I find rebuilt Plow Chief points, so guys weren't ready to just throw a worn out point in the iron pile, they wanted to get some more life out of it.

dad has a 4 bottom oliver plow from the 30's that grandpa bought new to pull with a D-4 Cat. It has the replaceable points. Also the rest is replaceable parts :shins, moldboards, landslides.
