Farmhand Trip Loader value

Good afternoon all,

I have been on the search for a Farmhand "Standard" trip loader for quite a while (Next on the list will be a Farmall M). I'm looking to "recreate" the same setup my grandfather had when I was young. My uncle gave the tractor away a number of years ago and never thought to ask if I would be interested in restoring it.

Anyways.. A loader came up for sale in my neck of the woods, but it seems to me that the guy wants a good chunk of change for it. It is complete, and has an auxiliary reservoir. From what it looks like, though, the left upper frame rail has been bent and needs to be straightened. I have enclosed a photo of my grandfather's old M with the same loader, as well as a copy of the original sales brochure for the loader that I found on eBay a while back. Guy is asking $395, but I can't seem to find these old trip loaders selling for more than $75-$150 a lot of the time. Seeing as the loader will need to be straightened out some, and it only has one way cylinders... What do you guys think it is worth?

Thanks for the responses!

He's got his head in the clouds. As many of them as there are, you are right thinking a couple hundred should do it. I have an old Horndraulic I took off my M - I'm not even going to bother trying to sell it. I can dismantle it and reuse the steel and tubing and get my money's worth. I just can't help but think I could use those long cylinders for something.

Tip loaders of a more modern design (like a Paulson) used to go for around $300. Lucky to get 200 now.

While it may only be worth half that amount, spending the extra $200 on one that is complete, nearby and is exactly what you are looking for could still be a bargain. You could easily waist $200 of your time and gas trying to find another one in similar condition further away. You can start with a $300 offer.

Yes,too much money. BUT...those things are getting scarce, you may never find another one.So you may just have to pay the price to get a (rare) specific item. "The regret of not buying that special iten will last a lifetime, while the pain of .'too high' price' will soon be forgotten.Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

Case, it does not come with a hydraulic pump.. Only an auxiliary reservoir, but that in itself is probably pretty rare to find as well.

I haven't seen the loader in person yet, but I did get an a-mail back from him. The left upper frame rail is slightly bent, and would probably need to be straightened. Maybe even replaced. I've only seen these loaders on Farmall H's and M's in my neck of the woods, never on another tractor. I agree, it is most likely rare and it would be really neat to have the same setup my grandfather had.

I'm thinking I'll go take a look at it and depending on the condition of the bent arm, put down an offer of about $275.

Here are a few photos of the loader provided by the seller. For the most part it looks to be in good shape (maybe even original paint?). You can see that one of the frame tubes appears to be bent about 1/3 of the way up from the bucket end.

If I had no press, I"d lay it on wood blocks, under a tractor drawbar, or similar solid device, and press it out with a hyd jack. Maybe nail 2x4s on each side of the pipe when it"s on the blocks, to resist turning.

That is as I told someone on here a few years ago about the price. If it is what you want and you have the money to do it you might never again find what you are wanting so forget about what everyone says the price should be. As chances usually only come along once to get what you want.

Looks darn good in my opinion. Not all busted and bent and welded. I'd just pay his price(with a smile) and own it......BTW,Love that bucket!!

I whole heartedly agree! If you were looking for 'just an old loader',then any old $150.00 outfit will suffice. But since it HAS to be a specific model(Farmhand),then all bets are off. It's a 'supply and demand' thing. You may never find another......

Well, everyone..... I went to check it out and was surprised at both the condition and how complete it was. I ended up giving $300 for it. There is only one weld on the entire thing, and it was where the bend in the frame tube was. I'm thinking about trying to make a new one using the original gussets and braces, but I'm happy with the purchase. Now I have to start saving money for a Farmall M to mount it on!

I'm glad to hear the outcome. Sometimes you just have to go for it.
I have an real old "Farm-Hand Hi-lift F-10" than has been modifyed to be more like yours and it is the most handy loader to have around. Its had a tough life and everything on it has been stressed but it still is worth it weight to keep around.

We use a PTO pump but it is mounted on the front of the engine for live power. It kind of a maze to get on but once in the seat it is protected and safe. You know the capacity when the front tires go flat and the back tires come off the ground. We upset it a couple times but it was ready to go again when up-righted. cleddy
