Allis Chalmers RotoBaler

I just bought an AC rotobaler, s/n C1524. It looks complete, but will need to be run thru the shop before spring. Any body have an operators manual, especially about the overdrive gearbox and electric clutch? Is the clutch 6 or 12 volt? Any other bits of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check with the Upper Midwest AC club in Hutchinson, MN. They have had a booklet about making basic adjustments. Google their website. Important thing to make good bales is make a double windrow, two curls side by side.

We used one for a while unless there was a whole modern model I don't know about there was no electric clutch. Everything on ours was mechanical and like others said a wide windrow made the best bale. Sometimes weaving while driving help fill the bale chamber.

When it was full you stopped with baler still running (Hand clutch - great feature on WD Allis) and pulled a rope which dropped the twine arm and the end fed in between the rollers and wrap 15-20 times accross the bale until it seemed secure and some cutter cut the twine, and then you tripped something else so the back would open and bale roll out the back. I can not remember if the feed table stopped while finishing up the bale but the twine wrap, cutter and eject was mecanical and operator skill determined how the bale turned out. The only automatic thing on them was a bale counter that counted when the tripper worked. Good thing(if any???) about round bales is that they were suspose to shed rain if left outside and gentle on the alalpa stalk. The summers we expermented with the rotobaler it took Dad doing the driving and Brother & I managing the baler & bales. Surprising how many rolled down the hill and in the way of the next roll.

I kind of enjoyed it as the work was not hard and good bonding time with Brother out walking around & wasting time all day trying to do something. Brother hated it was a big joke & wasted time he would never get back in his lifetime do more important stuff. cleddy

Same as you I have one of these with no information on the overdrive unit. and haven't determined if it's 12 or 6 volt.

Has some information and good manuals for everything except the over drive and the people on the AC board were vague and disappeared before I could get any good info from them. I need to make a single part for mine that I will have to make as the 3 parts ones I looked at all had the same problem. As a result I never got mine hooked to a tractor this summer to figure out how it works

If you want to know about Allis RotoBalers just type that topic in the search at the top of this forum page and about 6 pages of comments & discussions will come up. You can discount what I said and about 90% of the previous users as very few had the later modern-automatic type and what I seen few had very good experence with them. Maybe you could enlighten us with some pictures & Information since this is the first I ever heard of them?? Cleddy
