John Deere plow hitch

A friend of mine has 55 3 bot plow. After looking in parts book we feel something is missing to make this hitch correct. What trips on this hitch or is there something missing? Not familiar with JD. Thanks.

That hitch doesn't trip as it only cushions a shock when you hit something. They normally have a clevis at the end to fasten to your tractor drawbar.

It was for the early version of the JD offered 'cushion release hitch' or otherwise known as the infamous knee knocker which disengaged the two-cylinder tractor hand clutch when something hit hard enough to compress the spring.

The first clevis you have attached to the plow is the one you should have bolted to the tractor drawbar. those hitches were the first one for the 44H plows. they hadn't figured a way for the hydraulic hoses to break away from the tractor and the hydr-cylinder yet. Also to highlite the fact they were hydraulic lift plows they also had a turn screw type leveling crank. and they didn't need any hose holder yet because the hose didn't break a way yet. so you didn't need to keep the ends out of the dirt. This was before the knee knocker set up. John

You are missing all the linkage, parts, that mount on the tractor and they were only made for the A, B, & G John Deere tractors. That hitch could not be used with any other make or model tractor. Those parts usually went with tractor when either tractor or plow was sold and then after being in way on tractor were taken off and junked as the plow with that hitch was all they were used on. Plow I bought had hitch like that and even tho I had a A JD the plow got changed over to hitch like for Farmall, Massey, Moline, Oliver and others. If you want to use that plow find the universal hitch for the other make tractors.

What everyone else commented to is true, as you'll see in the linked page, that was my plow when I bought it. As you can see there is a 'bushing' where the clevis rides, it's wore out in that picture of mine, as I had just gotten it home, just passing on that Deere does offer it, might want it before plowing alot with it.
