The original subject was "Re: charlynn 960 control valve".

I have a #35 hydraulic dump loader on my 1959 430 and am looking to fix the Char-Lynn 960 control valve on it. The bore of one of the valves was corroded so I tried to clean it up and replaced the seals a few years ago but now it leaks like crazy again. I think am going to need to replace it. Hayfarmer mentioned Surplus hydraulics as a source. Can someone help with contact info or link for Surplus hydraulics or any other place I can get a replacement and some more detail on what valves can be used? I don't have much experience working on tractor hydraulics, so details are appreciated.

In the archived post by hay farmer in response to a question similar to mine from co94bra, hayfarmer said "try Surplus Hydraulics. what tractor is the #35 on? that would determine if open center. I have a 2 spool valve from Surplus hydraulics on my 35 loader with hydraulic dump. works great and was resaonably priced. Depending upon how loader is plumbed you may need the power beyond plug."

I have used the assemble your own stacked valve in Prince brand for a couple of projects and been very happy and found that option was the most reasonable if you want more than one spool. If you have time get a catalog as I find ordering with that chart easier than what I found on the website, but maybe that is just me.

If you are a easy drive to Lincoln NE they also have a showroom. It is small but the times I have gone there I usually came out with a load of stuff.
burdens surplus center

I think I have a Prince 2 spool valve. As mentioned they go by Surplus Center now I think. My #35 loader is on a 430 JD. The old valve and subsequently the new one I got have a "powerbeyond" line that goes to rockshaft housing. It does take the open center valve. Do you now have 3 hoses off of your valve?

Appreciate the suggestions! The catalog pages do seem a bit easier to use and is also available online. It is nice that you can customize the stack valves. There is an option to get metering notches on the spool which the original Char-Lynn has.

Have you had any issues with differences in rated flow rate and pressure of the valve adversely affecting loader response to valve position? The JD 430 has an 8 GPM 800 psi pump. It seems that the minimum specs on the stacked valves is 1500 psi and 12 GPM. There are some other Prince options with 2000 psi relief and 8 GPM.

I think I can answer my own question. The 3rd hose must be for "power beyond" on the JD 430 with #35 loader that both hayfarmer and I have.
