Dearborn plow

I picked up a Dearborn plow today. It is currently a 2 bottom but it looks to have been cut down from possibly a 3 bottom. It doesn't have any coulture wheels on it. The share tips have been broken off and I am unable to find any new ones. The model number has a couple of dents in it so it seems to be missing a number I can make out 10_157. The serial number is 1436. Can anyone help me with shares? It's hard to measure because the tips are gone.

Please help me.

Thanks, Brett

You measure on the frame, not the share, you can measure size with no shares or bottoms on frame.

something to think about
if the old plow had been used and abused to the point that the shares have been broken off.
its been hung up or hit rocks, then jerked around hard, etc:

if you do find shares ($$)and get the plow back together, the frame may be sprung and will never go in the ground or pull right. it takes a man with hours of plowing experience to look at an old plow, just setting on the ground, to determine that its sprung, but only a few minutes of trying to use it and it will not go in the ground.

an old disc or rotary cutter, you can limp along and do an OK job of ordering the garden spot or cutting off the woods lot,

but two pieces of equipment, if they are not in proper working order, that will drive you crazy trying to use: a flat bottom plow and bar mowing machine, they need to be in good order.

maybe you need to look into spending your fortunes on a plow in better condition, this the perfect time of the year to buy a plow, never try to buy a plow in the spring.

just my two cents.

I'm with wellmax on this one- there are lots of good, 2 bottom 3 point plows around at auction for $100-$200- an amount you will go through pretty quickly on your Dearborn. Plows that are cut down from 3 to 2 bottoms generally aren't "balanced" anymore, and work badly- and lack of coulters makes it about impossible to plow sod while still controlling your language.
I picked up an AC 2 bottom, with coulters, in perfect shape, for $125 a couple of years ago. 2 bottom tag-alongs, which work fine, are available for even less, if you don't have good draft control on your tractor 3 point.

The average 2 bottom 3pt plow in my part of Nebraska is worth $275-300. I have watch them sell for $375-385 if they are complete with coulters and jointers.
