NH 488 Knife sections

Was thumbing thru a Shoups catalog and saw cutterbar knife sections. Shoup offers top serrated and bottom serrated. Whats the difference and what should go on a NH488?

I use top serrated chromed sections in mine. they are tougher than the black mild steel ones.

Same here. Use chrome top serrated in my 499.

I've used both on my 488 and I can't complain on either one although you can sharpen the underserrated ones where as the top serrated are supposed to be self sharpening. That's what I was always told anyway.

What guards do you have? That dictates what sections you use. I use under serrated, with double hard smooth swather guards. I like the under serrated because I sharpen my sickles after about 5 hours of mowing. I also use smooth sections in nice Broam hay, and alfalfa.
