NH 68 small square baler

I'm restoring and repairing this baler. Several areas are not fixable, but it still works. In replacing pickup tines I found what is shown on attached photos, one half of the tine badly bent and cutting into the respective pickup guards. Anyone have experience with this problem? I hadn't seen this before and am curious as to what might have caused the tines to bend sideways.

Probably just hit something driving forward with the PTO off?

None of my business, but it looks like your right hand feeder tine is wore down a goodly amount as compared to the one to the left of it. They should measure (if I recall correctly) about 13-3/4 inches long. If you are getting banana bales, a worn down feeder tine can be one of the causes or at least add to the problem.

Good luck,
Bill

I've found a lot of supply store times are of questionable hardness, and bend easily. Got some side rake teeth once, musta been made out of fence wire, could bend them by hand....

But, those teeth go through a lot of stress, look at the conditions they work in, they break or bend when they hit enough rough stuff.

Thanks, Bill. Hadn't gotten to the point of checking those. Will measure those and maybe need to replace before I can say enough repair!
