Corn Picker

I have an old John Deere 100 corn picker/snapper. Actually I have three of them, one I use and two for parts. My problem is that over the years I have robbed about all the parts I can off my parts machines, and I'm to the point that if something major breaks it could be the end of the picker.
Does anyone know if there are parts available for these pickers anywhere? John Deere is out, a few years ago I needed roller bearings and I think I got the last in their entire nationwide inventory. I hate to quit using it, its a dang good picker and I don't want to have to go to a pull type New Idea, etc. Thanks

New part options are probably next to zero. You own two parts machines and you will probably have to own more. Your search area will have to be much wider than it was the last time I would bet. Keep checking Ebay and Craigslist for parts or complete machines. Running a few hundred miles is not going to be economical but it is what it is going to take to get a parts machine. You know what questions to ask so you can screen out machines that may have nothing left to offer you.

Does it have special bearings or something? Some welding shops can get different types of bearings! Other wise a 300 is
a good picker!

I have one (1948 model) set up to run on a TO35 Ferguson
have not used it in a few years.
back tire when flat, they are 9" which might have been popular years ago, but not anymore. I normally oil it up and run it a few minutes each year just to keep it loose.

keep my address:

maybe someday I will sell you a part, but as of now, mine will still pick corn.

I was never as high on the 100 series as you are, guess mine is not in as good of shape as yours.

I always wanted the New Idea one row picker.

If You are in need of bearings I have found that Duane Larson's bearing cross reference is the best info to have. Although Duane is no longer with us his web site with the information is.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the responses, will definitely check out that website jsborn. I have looked around for possible replacement pickers should it come
to that, about all you can find anymore is New Idea and the 300 series John Deere pickers. As for my area, New Idea is it, no one knows
there's another kind of picker, lol. Me being partial to the Deere pickers I'd like to see a 300 up close but I'd have to drive several
hundred miles to do that.
Wellmax99 I run my 100 with a little 34hp Kubota, its quite a sight, 1940's machinery paired with 2007.

You'd need a lot bigger horse for a 300! I don't remember if they were 1000rpm only or if they were also made with 540.
