JD 336 wire baler tying issue

I use my JD 336 baler for wheat straw. Once in a while on the right side of the wire tie knotter there will one bale with no wire on that side but a long wire equal to two bales length will be tied to the next bale tied as it comes out of the bale chamber. The knot on the bale looks like a double knot of wire. I looked at my JD OM manual and it does not show anything like this issue. When looking at the gripper or arm ((AE10715) there is a vertical groove in it whereas the other side does not have one. The other day I baled 80 plus bales of hay for a neighbor and it did not do that. What could be causing this? I've checked the wire alignment guides on the underside of the chamber. It the gripper needing replaced? Or, is the wire holder need serviced? Is it a twister issue? If a picture is needed for clarity I will try to provide one. Any assistance is always appreciated.

Are all 3 hay dog springs intact and hay dogs functioning properly? Normally one wire encompassing 2 bales together indicates needle missed wire under bale case when tying system tripped for needles to enter bale chamber. This can be caused by needle height in home position being just a tiny amount too high.

Carefully check the "knot" and see if it is double or only three strands of wire. If double, probably need to replace the twister hook as the wire from first bale is not stripping out. If three strands, recheck the guides just before the wire goes on the backside (toward the tractor side) of the needle. If the guide is too far away, the wire will fall out of the groove on the backside of the needle and get caught by the twister hook, putting three strands of wire in the twist (knot).

Another thing on these wire balers not related to your current problem is to keep all of the rollers in the guides on the bottem of the bale chamber loose and turning. If there is a flat spot in the roller it is best to replace it. I have seen wire cut half way through these rollers before.
Thanks again .

May I ask what guide you're referring to? I can't remember witnessing what you referred to or how guide could be involved in 3 wires being caught in hook. A lot of wire problems are created from baling wire coming from factory with too little amount of oil on it. Retarding timing of hook one tooth gear can help wire knot pull out of hook.
Thanks ,Jim

The groove in gripper is a lot of the problem. When needle brings wire up to gripper it slips out before has chance to clamp it.

I beg to differ. If wire makes it to worn gripper(grooved) the wire knife should still cut the wire therefore the wire on the missed side would be regular length with a tiny hook on one end IE not 2 bales in length. Now if needle is adjusted too far away from twister shaft then the wire can be laid on the nose of the gripper arm not allowing wire to make it to gripper/knife area then one can get double bale length wires.

when i was growing up in co. we had a jd 214wt tim mentioned the hay dog we always referred to them as trip dogs but same things, seem like about the 3rd year we run it i started missing a bale now then not a big thing but bug my dad so jd dealer sent the man down now Willard was one good mechanic learned a lot from him but by 3 4 in the afternoon he was lets say little tipsie but after a few hrs we found that the pin that the trip dog was on was broken understand it is a pin through the dog with a roll pin holding it on through the dog through pin the pin would brake where the roll pin went through. leaving the pin to separate in the center replaced the pin roll pin it be ok tell one broke again after Willard get down he head on down to the river for some trout fishing we liver on the white river western colorado. i know he never billed as much time as he spent just always wanted get thing going before dark so he get some fishing...thoes type guy are few and far between now days
