Cannot attach Driveshaft to Agri-cutter mower input shaft

I had to replace the driveshaft on my 5' Agri-Cutter mower. I had to cut the old one off and can't get the new one to go back onto the input shaft. What am I missing?

Do your telescoping shafts resemble this photo? If so there is only one way out of 3 possibilities that the ends will slide together.

Yes they are aligned. The prob is attaching to the input shaft on the gear box. Seems like the shaft is just a slight fraction larger than the u-joint. How easily should the u-joint slip on?

I assume you have cleaned the parts with a good solvent and checked very closely for any "Dings" or damage...

If, after that it will not slip on I would think you have the wrong part..

Sometimes all it takes is a light coat of Paint to make installation nearly impossible...

Could this be a problem..??

If you cut the old one off it sound like the splines could be damaged? I had to cut the fan assemble off a JD B tractor & it took me forever with a small file to get the splines back to proper size & shape. I damaged them using a chisel.

That could be I'll try polishing inside the U-Joint with a cylinder wall grinder and see if that helps.
Thanks
