IHC 37 Knotters

My knotter wraps the twine around the bill hook and I see some possible causes.I am going to get replacement knife blades for the twine cutter. Could dull blade be the cause? Could the compression on the bill hook spring be too tight? Anybody ever have twine wrapped around the bill hook? It seems to make a good knot but misses about one bale in four. Always the right hand knotter. Yes this is the old style

What does it do - break the twine before pulling it off or just not tying the knot. I'm assuming your 37 is similar to my 46. The knives can be taken off and sharpened if they are the issue. If the twine is breaking before pulling off the knot then the bill hooks are set too tight. What twine are you using? A manual is worth its weight in gold on these old balers, especially old IH balers.

How about the wiper arm that knocks the knott off the bill hook? If its to far away from the bill hook it dosent knock the knott off the hook and the knots just keep warping up on the bill hook. Try moving the arm closer to the bill hook. I had a IH 37 baler and I thought the twine knives were replaceable? But that was about 10 years ago!

Does it tie a knot and then tie a second one over it because the first one didn't come off the bill hook. If that is the case then it broke the twine trying to pull off the first knot. I'm thinking I can give you some ideas once I really understand what is happening as I have been through my 46 knotter more than once and spent many hours in the manual. Mine does tie pretty well all things considered.

Hello,
I don't know if you have this manual pages or not. If not maybe it will help. My 37 sometimes get's problematic on one knotter and it's usually the Twine knife. In this manual the twine knife they show is a one piece design that had to be sharpened. However, I replaced them with inserted twine knife. I generally replace the little razor blade knives every spring whether it needs it or not. Five dollars and I save myself a lot of aggravation. Anyway, I hope these pics help.
