oliver disc questions

Ok so I need some help deciding what to do.
I bought both of these discs from a good friend and neighbor for a 100$ each. They are both oliver discs one has a tag and says model 242, it has the tandem wheels where the other looks identical but has single wheels. Am it right to assume that they are both model 242? also my original plan was to move all the good parts to one disc to use then scrap the other but now I'm rethinking that idea and was wondering what would you guys do? I am going to pull 1 or the other with my farmall 656.

the tandem wheel disc has 10 blades per gang and measures close to 12ft 6in it has several broken blades and a bent axel on one rear gang. the back blades are 17ish inches and the front are down to 15ish.
it needs at least one spacer and probably all knew bearings. and most the springs to make adjustments are rusted and broke.

the other has single wheels NO paint left and has 9 blades per gang and is closer to 11ft 6in . the front blades where replace a few years before the former owner retired so they are 17+ inches across and the back are about the same but not exactly. it does have one broke blade on the back but all the springs and adjustments seem to work. it will needs hubs wheels and tires. but really it is in much better shape of the 2.

The slightly smaller one is in much better condition so will need less work to get in the field but I really like the bigger one with the tandem wheels. I don't really want to scrap either. which disc would you guys keep? and is it worth it fix them both up. (funds are limited so it would be a LONG term project to fix both).

thank you.

I'd stick with the one in the best condition, either way, for $100 you can't go wrong. The bent axle would worry me the most.

Why would the bent axle worry You? They can be straightened. Cought one on a post 30 years ago, straightened and it is still going.

Personally, I would not scrap either as you got em both for a bargain price.

That said, Keep the one with the dual wheels for yourself. When you raise those dual wheels off the ground it is has more weight which helps the disc go in the ground better. We had an old Massey with those dual wheels and that was a cutting son of a gun.

The single wheel disc if it is like the one we had, then it has springs on the gangs to sorta float. The one we had was in perfect shape but it never left a level cut. We always had to run the harrogator behind it to level the seed bed. Dad tried everything even shimming the gangs with wood to keep em from floating. No matter what we did it was a ridge maker even with all new blades on it. Tried changing angles of the gangs, nothing worked. All our other worn out raggety discs would out cut it each and everytime. Still, I would not scrap it. I love Oliver tractors and Oliver plows but that Oliver disc we had was not a dandy at all.
