Tox o wik dryer

Hi guys,
I went from picking corn to combining it instead. I bought a well cared for pto driven tox o wik batch dryer. Can I hook the propane up to it and try to run it empty? I have been told it won't light if it is not at least half full of corn. I would at lease like to see if the burner will light. I hooked it up to the pto, ran it and clicked the starter button and the igniter sparks and I can hear solenoid click. I haven't ordered my propane yet. I would like to get propane and at least know it is going to work before harvest. Any tricks or advice prior to running one. Thanks for your help.

Nephew has a batch dryer. I watched him fill it with wet wheat and dry the batch. The level of the grain went down about a foot by the time the wheat was dry enough to put in the bin. It did burn a lot of propane, but it dried the grain just fine.

I will second you can test try the burner. I have a good friend that dries 20,000 every year with a Tox-o-wik dryer..

There should be a pressure limit switch that allows propane to flow into the burner only if there is enough back pressure---the purpose of this switch is to shut the flame off if the dryer is emptied of crop. Once empty, the air is easier for the fan to blow it through resulting in less back pressure. This switch also shuts the flame off if the fan stops for some reason. It can be bypassed for testing purposes, but keep it intact while drying.
