NH 451 Sickle Mower Questions

I am looking to replace my minneapolis moline model So sickle mower with a new holland 451 and i have a couple of questions. all of my mowing is road trimming up against hill sides and 100% of my mowing is done at between 70 and 90 degrees vertical. on my current machine i can move the sickel angle hydraulically between 90 degrees vertical and flat without getting off of the tractor. is it possible to move the sickle angle between 90 and 70 degrees without getting off of the tractor with a new holland 451? i included a picture of the rig i was using for comparison. i would be hooking the NH-451 up to a ford NAA.

No. Not happening. And you aren't going to be happy at ALL going from a midmount to rear mount.

is there such a thing as a mid mount sickle mower for a ford NAA ? i would really like to be able to adjust the angle of the bar without having to get off of the tractor.

As RickB said - No.

I mow some steep road banks with a 451, and the only way to get the bar up the bank is by approaching the bank with the tractor at about a 45 degree angle to the bank. Raise the bar to the max until you contact the bank, then let the mower all the way down. Pull the tractor slowly forward, turning as you go, and the bar will slip right in place. It takes a little practice to make it work consistently.

Someone on here was gonna add a hydraulic cylinder to his 451 to make it do what you're wanting. I don't know how his project turned out.

The 451 is a great mower, but that rig on your MM looks nice.

I know they are not exactly the same but I did replace the lift chain on my JD 350 mower so I could do what you are trying to do. It works well but you may need to restrict the flow from your remote to the lift cyl. When I first connected mine up the least touch would slam the bar either up or down. :)

i actually wouldn't mind sticking with what i have but it's broke beyond repair. thats kinda why i was wanting a 3 point one for my jubilee. the 451 was is apparently not the one for me. does anyone make a 3 point pto driven belt drive mower that i can adjust without getting off of the tractor?

well the good news is that it does exist. there is a NH dealer not far from me. i'll give him a shout tomorrow. thanks

ok so i guess i'm kinda committed to fixing the blade at a 90 degree angle with a bracket and using the sickle bar in that fashion. you are probably right i won't be completely thrilled with it but i can't seem to find another solution other than buying a 3 point boom mower that i can't afford. would the NH 451 be my best choice for doing this or is there something better and affordable out there that i am missing?
