Ferguson 2 Furrow Plow

Hobby Paul

Yesterday I bought this little plow, spur of the moment kinda thing. Price was right, he knocked $25 off because one of the coulters wasn't moving, but i've already got that moving freely.

Anyways, I'm looking for a little info on this plow.
Age, value, if its missing anything, and most importantly, the original colour. I would really like to clean it up and get some fresh paint on it.

The plate on the plow reads-
12- AO-28
Ferguson
Harry Ferguson Inc, Dearborn Michigan
Made in U.S.A

I believe it should be gray, not sure of the specific Ferguson Gray, but someone else here will know that. It looks a like a nice one, shares look good on it too. Only thing that stands out missing, is the jointers, per this photo.

Looks pretty much like the plow that came with the 9N that Dad bought in 1939. Unfortunately, we had rocks so Dad traded that plow in for an Oliver rock trip plow.

nice looking plow,

but my plow experience with my old 3x12" MF62 plow is:

in loose ground that has been disc and has very little debris, the plows do a good job and cover well.

but, if there is a lot of weeds, grass, corn stalks to turn under the high speed wings (very slight curve) just do not do the job.
maybe with my TO-35, I cannot pull them fast enough to fully cover the debris.

you might think about adding wing extensions, if it does not cover well.

see picture attached of plow with extensions, also notice this old plow has one weed pusher rod still attached, this was another option available to help push down the weeds or growth so the plows could turn under the growth.
see picture of my old 3x12" plow, however my plow does not have holes in the wings for the wing extensions. They have very little wing curve, I would have added wing extension long ago if the wings had holes for them, would have to blow holes in the wings and am not up to that yet.

one of the reply's showing the little tractor plowing that tall grass and covering it well, we can not see the plow, but I bet it has these weed or tall grass push bars, rods attached to help push over the grass, so the plows can cover the material, as it is doing a great job of plowing.

That one time was called battleship grey as was supposed to be same color as the navy used on the ships. And I do have several extra of those weed rods and may have extra jointers as well. Got then out of junk pile at neighbors auction years ago. Dad bought that plow new in May of 1944 and it had the options. Weed rods did not work very good and just used about 8' pieces of no 9 wire. Don't ever remember the wed rods or jointers ever being used. Still have tractor and plow. And in 8 days I hit 72.

A friend got 2-14 Ferguson, not nearly as nice as the one in the photos, one welded moldboard, shares worn quite a bit etc. I had it here for awhile, and was able to use it. It looked like battleship gray, but I was not sure, there must be something out there on the actual or specific shade, it seems to match the color of the Ferguson tractor.

That's great you still have the tractor and the plow, funny how we savor this stuff, nostalgia, memories etc.

I don't see a need for jointers in these soils, but there must have been a reason or condition, tall weeds or something that can wrap on the coulter, or to scrape soil that sticks. I've never tried the #9 wire myself, but have had conditions where I should have.

I forgot to add that the moldboards on his are set up for moldboard extensions with the holes drilled in them.

Congrats on the upcoming odometer change to 72 !!!

Your plow is a 1943 or early 1944 plow. Color would be dark gray. Sod/clay bottoms shares.I just got NOS
shares for mine at the ford/fordson show last month. Yours appears to be in nice shape. Good luck with it.

the ruoleum smoke grey is about as close as you will get to the correct color without going to automotive paint that will cost big bucks. the massy ferguson grey is too dark.

AS,
if you are asking me about the strong top link, not mine.
I only copied the picture to show the wing extensions and the weed bar mounted onto this old plow.
my plow is the red one, MF62 3x12 with very straight wings and no holes for wing extensions.
