My chopper slows and almost stops in tall grass, in the past I've seen a little smoke come out of the slip clutch but nothing at this time. I know I need to adjust my secondary clutch on the tractor, MF 165, because I have to nearly stall it out to get the pto to engage. Watching the pto shaft when the mower slows it doesn't seem to be slowing but is hard to tell for sure. So is the clutch on the mower slipping or secondary on the tractor? Which is more likely? If the slip clutch, what is the best option? Rebuild or replace with aftermarket? Also I bought the mower used and the seals are bad, have to top off fluid every use, how difficult is it to replace seals? Thanks for any input

You should be able to tighten up the slip clutch unless the plate is completely gone .
Everyone just about uses John Deere corn head grease to lube the gearbox.
This usually works fairly well unless the seals are just shot
