Farmall 7' mower for F-20

This mower came with my f-20, but I have never had it on the tractor. I'd like to get it back to usable condition. I have most mower attachment and brackets figured out except the purpose this arm (last pic) and whatever is broken off the casting beside it. the pictures I find online are a different mower.

I'll also take suggestions on what guards and sections to get and where to get a replacement hold down (one missing).

I'm not sure it's all there.I think some parts are missing.Where is the drawbar/mounting brackets? I see the drawbar side
supports, lift assist spring, the breakaway. The mower looks like any one of several more 'common' IH mowers. Are you 100% sure it came
from an F-20?

No I am not sure it's all there. I am sure it was mounted on my f 20 at one point in history.

I believe it sits on top of the drawbar with a single bolt to the left of the gearbox. The break away bolts to the drawbar beside the right tire and the breakaway arm hooks to the loop near the hinge.

The sitting on top of the drawbar sounds right.I've see several mowers like that mounted on F-12'F-20;H....(pictures,too). I
used to have a similar mower mounted on an H/M hoop drawbar.Made that one into a 3 point mower.
In fact,I still have a junk F-12 with a mower 'baseplate' still on the drawbar. My only sugjestion is to put it on the
tractor.See what you have(or dont). Then 'aquire' or adapt/make the parts to make it funtional.Good luck!

Thanks DeltaRed

Got it mounted, took a bit to figure out where the drawbar needs to be.

I still do not see the purpose of this arm. It's part of the tilt lever.

It's got a spring assist for the lift, works pretty easy. The arm is attached to the lever that adjusts the angle of the cutter bar. I am not sure if should move freely on the shaft. I don't see any pinch bolts so it may be rusted to the shaft. Way to low and hard to get to to be a pedal.

I thought maybe it was a kick stand to help attach the mower to the tractor but it's real just in the way to help with that.

Next question.
Where can I get a pto coupler like this? Or how can I narrow the online search down? The splines are stripped out around an inch back.

Chop off that old antiquated thing and install a new modern 'assembly' onto the shaft.See your local implement dealer,Tractor
Supply(or similar),Even NAPA may carry or get them.

I had a fully mounted mower on an F12. My pto was made like yours with the splines starting back a little ways. When the mower hits something and the blade swings back the pto shaft pulls off the tractor and stops the mower. It saves breaking something and I kinda liked it but it was a pain. That area with no splines was a big help when you swung the mower back and had to get the pto back on the tractor. My mower had a foot pedal that you held the mower up with when you swung around on corners. Keep your right elbo tucked in when you are mowing because the long lift lever will be whipping back and forth as you mow.

Thanks ET, I kinda assumed the shaft was supposed to uncouple if the mower breaks away. I looked through TSC's selection the only parts they have with the small shaft are the adapters. I thought about welding an adapter coupler on the old cross, I think I'll try to clean this one up better first.

Next question:
What's factory for the mounting "bolt"? I have a long bolt in it now. Didn't know if it should be a snug bolt, bolt with a spring, or a clevis and pin.

Thanks, Jeff

The No12 mower on my F12 mounted to the rear axel in place of the drawbar so I can't give
you much help on mounting.

That shaft is NOT supposed to uncouple if the mower swings back, it is supposed to telescope for that. If it would uncouple that shaft would be swinging with the power of a bullet and trying to tear things up. I might in all of my parts books have that mower in them. But anything that would keep it from sliding off the shaft would work. I have had shafts come off and you do not want to be close when they do.

Leroy, I agree it's a poor design.
There is no keeper on the coupler and the pto shaft slide is spring loaded (and captured) to keep the coupler attached to the tractor. I would rather have the coupler come apart at the tractor and the mower stop quickly, then have it come apart at the slide, and have half the shaft swinging around until the tractor slowed down. The shield around the shaft is also quite bullet proof with 1/4" plate on top.
