Shredder Skirting

Broke Hoss

New User
I have to raise my Ford 951A shredder, due to many rocks. I figger when I do, it will start throwing these rocks & other debris at me. I was planning on bolting some kind of skirting around it. It will need to be firm enough to somewhat contain the flying objects, but flimsy enough not to act like a grader blade.

Any ideas?

I initially thought of tire tread from the local retread facility, but they no longer sell to the public. I was wondering if maybe something along the line of a cutting strips from a rubber p/u bedliner might work

Chains? Conveyor belting from a quarry- about half inch thick, can abuse it. Goes cheap. Makes good shop mats as well. I use a 2x3 foot piece for floor work, cut a handle into it. I actually found a piece on the road, cut it up for 3 boys and myself.

Thanks for the reply.

I've thought about conveyer belt too, but dunno where to find any around here. I also wondered about some old firehose. I think I can get my hands on some of that.

I like the idea of baler belts. Those I should be able to find around here.

No more than 4in, that's why I thought the tire tread would work.

Maybe rubber mudflaps?

I don't want to end up spending a lot of cash on this. But I want to protect my equipment, & me.

I have to agree on the conveyor belting-- pal gave me a piece to use for light protector on a trailer. It is very heavy and looks indestructible would be good for what you want.

Here are some photos, both chain and or belting, I'd want something thick like a mudflap, tire, thick conveyor belting. Whenever I think of a rock I hit with one of these mowers that came out the front, upward past the back of the tractor and went over a hedge row, tree line into the next field, it makes me cringe to know I literally dodged a cannon ball. Be safe and use something equivalent to what the manufacturers have designed, your concerns are quite valid, they can send things flying out that will flatten a tire or cause serious injury.

Thanks Billy NY, & others, I would prefer chains, but don't have any laying around or access to a welder right now.

I think I've found some conveyer belt, if there is enough to do the job. I'll be digging for some angle iron now.

Thanks for all the replies.
