Still tedder shopping...used Kuhn or new Sitrex??

Found a 2006 Kuhn gf5001tha, looks barely used, hydraulic fold/tilt, for $4600.

Also found a brand new, still in the crate(Id have to assemble it) sitrex rt-5200h hydraulic fold for $4500. New sounds nice but I also know the Kuhn is suppose to be a better tedder...suggestions?

I have sold NEW Sitrex and they are a good reasonable priced tedder. The Kuhn is a good machine as well. The draw back to me actually is the hydraulic tilt. The tilt is how you adjust the ground clearance on a tedder. I only set that when the tedder is STOPPED so I can make sure I am not POWER rotavating my hay fields. So I can see hitting the hydraulics and ruining the teeth on the tedder. I like to keep things nice and simple. So a manual turn handle would be my choice over a hydraulic adjust.

Sitrex hay tools are widely available. They make NH,M7W and sell under their own Sitrex name.

Actually JDSeller on these models the hydraulic tilt has a manually adjustable stop mechanism on them. You basically use the screw handle to adjust the rotors to where you want them and all the tilt cylinder does is take it from running level to tilted forward until it reaches whatever point you set it for. So as long as you have it set correctly you wont ever touch the ground with it, no matter how long you hold the hydraulic lever on the tractor.

We have the exact same model tedder, just rebadged as a New Holland 163. Been a great tedder. I really enjoy the hydraulic tilt feature because it lets you tilt it back when turning on the the ends and you don't pile up the hay on the headlands when turning like you do if you leave the rotors down. Keeps all the hay spread pretty evenly doing that. And with the digidrive drivelines it doesnt hurt to tilt or raise the rotors with the tedder running.

As long as that one looks as good up close as it does in the pics, I'd vote for it over the Sitrex, just my opinion.

Teeth cost $15 for most tedders, and they do break. I keep several of each here just in case one does break. I'd also get the Kuhn before the Sitrex any day. I've seen too many Sitrex's sitting waiting for parts and wet hay down. While a fairly good tedder, they are lightly built and will not stand up to too much rough ground. As far as the tilt, the rotors should be set to run about 1-1 1/2" off the ground in the front. I set mine on a hard surface when I start. Running the teeth in the dirt will break them, not do much better in the hay, level out a lot of mole hills, and wear the machine out way before it's time.

The nearest Esche Tedder I can find is 383 miles away..according to google maps its 7 and half hours away. Little far for a tedder. But they do look nice online.
