Driveshaft Guard

I have a driveshaft for a KMC Peanut digger/inverter that has a metal guard. I need to
remove the guard to clean up the shaft and straighten some dings in the guard.

There are three slits with a metal retaining spring of some sort in them.See picture.
Thought I would check how to remove the guard before wrecking something.

Thanks!

Push that retaining ring in and you can remove the guard. Use a screwdriver to push in, and toward the open bell. You"ll see the retaining groove when the bell is off.

I have several similar PTO shaft guards. On mine, the slits are semi-permanently bent in to retain a bearing. One has a ball bearing in each end, and the other has a nylon bushing. These bearings allow the guard to remain stationary when you or something else rubs against it while the shaft is spinning.
