ford 250 hay baler

Studabaker

New User
I just bought a Ford baler that has been in storage for 20 years. The first time out with it was troublesome (string and knotter issues fixed). Since then I have lubed the machine and attempted to service the gear box. By mistake I backed the backup stud out. Per the manual it says to finger tighten the Stud to the gear and back off 1/8 turn. I have done this but the baler is jamming up on me now (dead stop) It cycles a few times until it gets loaded up. Besides greasing the machine this stud is the only adjustment I have changed. Before I changed the Backup Stud's adjustment this baler cycled fine.

Any Ideas I have 8 acres ready to bale Thursday!!

Thanks

Proper part name is Backup support stud. It maintains proper mesh of the ring and pinion gears under heavy load.

I don't know how far you turned it in but I would try to back it off another ⅛ turn and see if it still does it. The only other thing I could think of would be the plunger binding in the chamber.

I think the PTO Clutch is bad. I took it apart today and it was nasty and only about a 1/4 inch thick tops. cleaned it
with brake cleaner and ran sand paper over everything. it worked great for about 100 feet. the jammed up and the Clutch
slipped, this time it at least bogged down My Massey 65 a little. I have contacted a Real farmer and he is going to
round bale it for me. As far as my baler is concerned I think it needs to be a winter project it is a very well worn
baler.
