What's the best way to drop them while baling. On bottom or on sides? I sell out of the field so a few times there's a couple days between baling and pick up.

Around here in SE Ohio they better be on edge, even for a 1/2 day. We baled a few on the ground last week, picked them up in the late day, any that were laying flat were very damp on the bottom, those on edge not so much. And the ground was DRY, and low humidity with some wind.

I vote for on the side, the twine we get today does not seem to hold up to any moisture. I;ve had twine break from ground moisture after only a couple of days. gobble

If you are just dropping them get yourself the quarter turn bale chute designed for your baler and let it decide how they lay.

I prefer to drop them on their side, It is easier to see if you baled a snake. I have seen rattlesnakes with about nine inch of wiggle room sticking out of hay bales. My god son hauls for me and we start the day with the same conversation each time.
