Yeah, run. I grind feed weekly and trust me when I say this - don't buy one that hasn't been shedded. Maybe he sheds it, but they don't surface rust like that from good care. The concentrate you put in your batches has salts in it and it's hard enough keeping them from rusting if they are kept dry.

A few musts: It must have a loading auger with a hopper. You need to be able to put it under a truck or bin and not need a separate auger to get it in there. It must have a mineral auger that does not take it through the mill. It must have hammers that have at least one turn left on them. When they need a new set of hammers they are shot.

Arts Way units go pretty cheap. I think it would be a good reliable fit for you. They aren't a Cadillac, but it sounds like we're talking just a few hogs here.

I would look for something in a little better shape. This one does not have a loading auger and is quite rusty. I also can't make out the name on it. I would try and get one that you can get parts for. You will need them over time.

Papec was in Shortsville, NY. Went out of business around 1980. There's no intake auger or discharge auger on it so it will mean a lot of shoveling. It might work for just a few hogs but I wouldn't pay much more than scrap for it.

It says Papec on the machine but I'm wondering if Artsway Mfg. of Armstrong, Iowa didn't build it for Papec. I had an Artsway grinder-mixer that looked very similar to the one in the picture. Mine was built around 1956. I have a parts list for it, I believe.

I was going to mention that. I know the 1970s Papec machines were made by Arts-Way, but wasn't sure about the earlier models.
