Ford like g something 503 rake

I have a 503 in the weeds. When it works it's about the best rake I've ever used. But it rarely works. I'm wondering if it was intended to be run at 540 pto rpm or much, much slower. I'm thinking something like ground speed on a MF type set up. Did Ford ever make a tractor with ground speed and does anyone know if the 503 was intended for that use or just 540?

Ford put two different drive pulleys on those rakes depending on what tractor it was to be used on. I think one was around 7" diameter and the other was 4". I think somebody said here once that the N tractors needed the smaller pulley, while later tractors used the bigger pulley.

Yes, the Ford select-o-speed was offered with ground speed, 540 and 1000 rpm pto. Not sure about that rake, but in case you did not see this discussion, Jason explained for us about M-F after about the same question was posted, you might find it of interest.
