redecking bush hog type mowers

i have several bush hog type grass cutters that the decks are too soft.other than the cobble job repairs jobs that are normally seen i would like to start from scratch with all new to me heavier material. has anyone done this starting with a flat sheet and building new deck braces to fit the 3 pt frame? pics of upgrades appreciated. any don'ts? weight is not an issue.

It takes a lot longer than you think. Not that hard to do, we saved all the lifting/3 point structure as it was strong, straight and in good condition. Used a plasma torch to cut loose. Lots of measuring and pictures. When you drill the holes for the gear box do a good right job of fitting the bolt holes. We plated the top and bottom of the deck in the gear box area as extra reinforcement. The one we did was reinforced underneath with channel iron and we did the same with heavy channel. A lot of welding involved. We did it for a friend at a shop I helped at part time. Didn't keep track of time and the owner furnished the material. I am sure we couldn't sell one at shop rate's. It was a 7 foot Hardee I think.
