I wanted to post this in a new topic because of the experience I had. I believe that the original post was about what we call wire grass here in NH. A few years ago I was in a field that I had just taken over when another guy moved away. It was very low in fertility. My first time mowing I was moving right along with my Discbine when suddenly my mower stopped turning and the clutch was smoking. It was all plugged up with the wire grass which had grown very heavy in a low place. No two ways about it, a disc mower is going to do far better than a sickle mower, but wire grass can still be a problem. After getting the hay off I fertilized the field well, and put extra in that area. Next year very little wire grass, and run right through that area. The real answer is fertility.
