hinson 812 grain cart

anyone know anything about them? See one on an auction. Kind of looking for a cart to make the truckers happy. I think if i can load the front of the truck with the cart, and the back with an auger, it should go faster. But Ive never been around grain carts, so I have no idea how fast this thing unloads. Im currently loading wagons out of the bin first(bin has a 6 in unload, so it takes almost an hour for 1000 bu) Then calling the truck and using my 8 inch portable auger to fill the truck in 30 minutes or so(ive never timed it so im not sure on that, it may be faster) I also could use it in the field, but being by myself, its hard to make a cart work better than wagons. Also, they are sending the tri axle semi s now. They hold 1300(?) bushel of corn. And they dont like small loads. So is it a good fit..or should I look at something slightly newer?

The Hinson carts are old enough to vote. I think the company is no longer here. They are pretty simple but do have a gear box in the front. The biggest issue is that they do not have much reach. If the truck is very tall they will not reach into the box. When we filled my belt trailers you had to flip the spout up to drive under the auger and then flip it back down. A six foot tall sided hopper trailer would not fit under them.

The only good thing is they usually are cheap. Good ones usually do not bring $1500-2500 around here.

The dealer is near you jd. have had 2 different carts for over a year, put both on internet auction in a couple weeks. The other is a parker tandem. Which would suit me fine, but also twice as expensive. But a lot better shape. Still not sold on a grain cart being a great fit for my operation though.

A grain cart is heavy on your draw bars and they do cause compaction. OF the two your looking at in Monticello. I would take the Parker over the Hinson. It is a better cart with parts support. You also can use the Parker as a center dump wagon.
