Roller Mills

Has anyone had experience with roller mix mills ? We're expanding our sheep flock and are looking at a Peerless 5000 Roller Mill to replace our worn out Farmhand hammer mill grinder mixer. Will just be rolling oats and shelled corn.

They are slower than a hammer mill but you get less dust. Make sure and NEVER clean up grain on gravel. IF you get small rocks in the roller mill you can easily ruin the rolls.

Many thanks for the "heads up" JD, hope this work out. Mill appears to be in excellent shape and am going to-morrow to look it over and probably buy. BTW hang in there through your wife's trials. This site is very supportive as I found when my wife passed of M.S. in Nov. 2005.

i had a nh 355 grinder mixer which worked great. i converted mech inbound auger to hydraulic. tractor must have cooling system for hydraulic to run this or it gets hot. with roller mill can reverse knives. with kernal processor or rolls they have to be maintained and can be expensive. talk to a good nutritionist on benefits of each. also talk to salvage yards about part availibity.
