Flail Mower

looking at this little 6 foot unit to cut/chop corn stocks and clip
pastures, I like the size and 3 pt. for getting into small spots.
Just wonder if anybody has used one? also wonder how they
mow backing up because of the flat roller across the back? It's
a Model L72 Mathews (MC) owner has new full set of flail
knifes for it. Asking $ 500.00. I'm cutting with a old 3 pt. ford
brush cutter now. Thanks

A Flail will require more HP in heavy stuff (much more), but will do a good job with less need to over-lap passes..

My 6 1/2 ft wide Ford Flail could kill my JD 720 D, if I'd let it..same for my healthy 630..

mc(matthews company) are very good mowers. i have a rotary scythe, and if i remember correctly, new flails are $3 a piece plus bolts. So you wouldnt be doing bad buying that mower. Google matthews company mower and you should be able to find an online owners manual, at least i did for the scythe. Shoup sells the flails, so you can get a better estimate of what they are worth there.
