Anybody know vintage and value of old 227 Gyro mower. Just put new slip clutch and blades on it. JD dealer wanted serial number so I got it for him. It is # 1. Probably not many made.

John Deere tag says Made in Canada. Model 227 Ser 001. To me that means model and serial #. It is more of a brush beater than a mower. Has two trailer wheels one of which has a discer blade on inside. Trailer type with hydraulics. I am guessing early 60's around first 4020's.

Did they even have sn? Has all decals in place butno ther numbers. Gyramor is actual term. Was this another piece of JD equipment that was farmed out to another then painted green? Where in Canada were JD made?

The Welland works of Deere made rotary cutters, disk tillers, manure spreaders and loaders amongst a lot of other things. Welland Ontario is located less than an hours drive from Buffalo NY. The plant closed several years ago. :(

Tx Jim is correct that number is really the series number as I have seen dozens of serial number 001 implements. You are not the first person to think you had the first one made. Tom

I had one. Spun up to real high rpms, short blades, wheels on the side about "mid ship". Perfect for running over terraces as it didn't scalp with the axle in the center. Mine was the 5'. Don't know the number.

That was my reason for buying mine but turned out to be the biggest mistake. I looked at it several times thinking about moving the wheels to the rear and probably just using 1 but I got a good offer on it and sold it. It cut clean and did a great job going over terraces, but everything else the wheels sticking out on the side just got in the way.
