Electric Wheel Company Wagon

I'm looking for information on Electric Wheel Company Wagons. I drug my grandfather's Model 5005-B out of the brush this past weekend and would like to rebuild the wooden bed portion, which was disposed of years ago. I'm wondering if there was a standard bed configuration or not. If so, do plans exist?
Thanks.

The bed wouldn't have been built by the Electric Wheel Company. Only the running gear was. You could have put any kind of bed or box on it. Flat bed, gravity box, barge type box etc. There are lots of ways of building a flat bed for them. Must be some plans floating around out there somewhere.

my neighbor had a electric wheel wagon years ago.

it had a bed mounted on it built like the beds mounted on these pictures of my wagons.

the bed had 4x6's rails down each side

This one had a flat bed on it. What about color? Was the steel wagon chassis typically a certain color. Ours appears to be a shade of green.

Don't recall Electric Wheel making a 5th wheel gear.Looks like the front axle is an old car axle.

Seems like red was a common color for them, but probably not exclusive. They made a lot of running gears for Oliver and they most likely would have been green. The newer ones anyway. Earlier ones might have been from Olivers light line and could have been red as well.

Here is my electric wheels running gear with a kicker rack I built for it. I put metal flashing on top of the cross beams to help protect them from rotting. Its mostly red oak I had cut at a sawmill, and some left over scrap fence rails, Yellow pine. Got the running gear for $250 painted it and built a new rack. I think the wood and bolts cost me around $600. The wagon next to it is a NH running gear. J

Yes, they did, I have someplace some lit on several models and one was the fifth wheel type.

zark,
there has been a lot of water under the bridge since i worked with the old wagon I was telling you about.

Reason I thought is was a electric wagon was the fact that on the running gear it had the word electric with a bolt of lighting going across the emblem. That emblem just got my attention as most 4 wheel wagons in our area were shop made, it did have a 5 wheel type running gear and these weird looking wheels.

may have been a heavy duty electric running gear, may not have been anything like what you are looking for.

I just hauled 4 tons of pellets today with a Bowe running gear with those solid center wheels. I stopped at the farm to check my load before continueing the other 15 miles to my house, and when I got out I heard a hissing. Turns out one of the front tires pinched the tube with a slit in the side wall.

I had the spare tire with me (had 2 of those gears, but 1 jackknifed a long time ago, leaving us with extra rims), the jack and the tools, but it was even easier being able to use the impact! The total weight including the wagon and gear was close to 5 ton, as the wagon empty on the scale was 1720. I wrote it on the stringer last time I was on the scales with it.

The rack on the wagon measure 8'x18', and it trails straight as a whip. Only limiting factor today was my 1/2 ton pickup pulling it. Empty I had it up to 55-60. Loaded I was going 45 no problem.

I have a 16" closed-hub rim if anyone is looking for one. I"ve been wondering what brand it is and the application. Good condition w/ minor rust. Thanks.

Never seen a 5 bolt solid center rim like that.

I have however seen pictures of Electric running gears with solid center rims, so they must have made them and sold them to other mfg's. Our running gear was made by Bowe MFG. We've got 4 or 5 Bowe wagons, and I think they all have different size bolt patterns. Kinda screwy. Trail great though for 50-60 year old wagons.

There is an overview about the company at the farmcollector website. All of mine are 5th wheel types if my memory is correct two are 5004s or 4005s and one is a 5005. It was normal in our area to have a 12' to 16' bed 6'to 7' wide. They were used flat for hay, with 2' sideboards for corn and had extensions for cotton in the days of hand picking. There were long pole versions for cotton trailers (20' to 28') beds. I also have two MFs with automotive type steering and a long pole IH with 5th wheel steering they all have the 6 lug implement hubs.

Hi, I have an EW wagon running gear that is a model 550-J, s/n 86xxx. It has automotive type steering and is 66" wide outside of wheels. The wheels are 10 spoke 28" Dia. x 4" wide steel and the center tree is adjustable in length from about 86" thru 154" by 8 holes on 6" centers. There are four rectangular (2x4) vertical tubes at the axles to mount the bed on. The wheels have about 3-4" Dia. "dust caps" that have the EW logo on them. Thanks for the info on the other website, I'd not known there was any interest in them.

Looking for 4 rims like the ones you have on the website, 16" for wagon that is built by electric wheel company. phone # 256-337-4139

I need the type of 16 inch/ 5 hole closed hub rim that you displayed- do you still have it or know where to get one? Thanks
I believe it is an Electric Wheel Company product. I have an old hay wagon with a broken wheel that I need to replace. Please let me know.
