5100 white planter with splitter

looking at a white 5100 4 rw planter with a 5 rw splitter attached. couple questions is someone can help me. the monitor is only 4 rw. do the splitters not usually run on a monitor? the planter has disc openers on the front four and the two outside splitter units. the middle splitter unit has a little cultivator shovel like thing the the other two splitters have nothing.
also, it's missing the connecting shaft that runs the splitter. looking in the hole where it's suppose to be, the bearing bracket on the front unit don't line up with the main frame on the splitter unit. probably not a big deal to get to work.
anyone run a splitter like this? thoughts good or bad? will replace a 5100 4 rw with no splitter.

The splitters I have seen have standard disc openers, closing wheels, and the sensor for the monitor whether the owner has a box will accomodate all the rows is another question altogether. It sounds like the one you are looking has been cobbed up unless a picture would tell us otherwise. Normally, a good setup but you will have to figure out an appropriate price based on the variations you describe. Usually everybody wants 30 inch with the split being 15 inch so that unit should reflect that it is different in terms of price. If the standard features were there plus be complete in terms of parts utilized I would say it should be worth 3,000 dollars w/o fertilizer. Too bad I am getting tight on funds because I would not mind such a rig if the row units had the typical/ standard features.

he wants $1,000.00 for it as it sets. I think for that I can't go wrong, or at least son can't go wrong. it's got heavier down pressure springs on it but they have heavier land there than we do. has three sets of hoses, pressure motor, up and down, and markers. thought that was odd.

Unless it is a real basket case it sounds a very good deal even if you have to spend a thousand to square up the shortfalls.

Have late model 5100 4row wide with 3 row splitter .has sm 1000 seed monitor ,has jumper cord to monitor on splitter unit. Bought splitter from a guy in jewel iowa who makes them out of old planters. Check your bolts on lift wheel assemblies where it bolts to toolbar as they will break . I try to have a couple of spare around. Your price seems very reasonable. Good luck.

I ran a 5100 6 + 7 for several years. Very accurate planter. We used a second 6 row monitor piggybacked on the first one. One row wasn't monitored. We rebuilt the hydraulic pump and motor once, not much problems with the air system. We did have problems with one of the hex shafts wearing and rounding off, causing skips. Ours was 6-30s or 13-15s. We pulled it with a 2840 Deere. It was a little short of oomph, but if you kept it above 12-1300 rpm, it did okay.
