new holland 688 baler problems

Bought a used baler the other day knowing it has some problems but the price was very right. Got it home and hooked it to the tractor. Might have made a mistake. This thing makes some god awful racket. The problems that I can see are that the spur gears are not meshing correctly. Rollers are good, but i can see the gear tooth pattern is not right. the gears are bottoming out on each other and not contacting each other correctly. One roller is chaffed on the end, but i can not see it hitting anything.. It is fresh from me running it a bit, so I know that its still a problem. The second major problem is that the pick up reel teeth are ALL gouged in the same place. There is a round gouge in each one. can't really see what they're hitting. Hope there is someone out there that can shine some light on this subject. Thanks in advance.

I just ran into the same issue; headed into town this morning to see if I can get it in the shop.

Those rollers each have a bearing on each end. When one goes bad, they lock up. Mine twisted the lower roller which shortened it and now the gears don't mesh.

That complete 3-roller assembly has to come out.
