NH 269 Plunger Bearing Uh-Oh...

Hey guys, I managed to break the bearing off of the top of the square tube that sticks out the back of the plunger. Sheared it clean off of the stud or pin or whatever you want to call it. Is this going to require a complete plunger replacement or is there a kit to replace the "tail" with the bearings on it? Also, did NH have service manuals for these balers? All I can find is owners & parts manuals. I'd like to go over the rest of the machine to see what damage has been done due to the bearing failure & perhaps enact some preventative maintenance.

Thanks,
Mike

Owner's manual and parts manuals are all you find for New Holland balers till one gets to at least the 300 series if not the 500 series. Owner's manuals have a lot of info, especially on knotter service. Plunger bearings are serviced separately; some include the studs as part of the bearing assembly.

I wouldn't weld that stud, but you'll probably have to pull the plunger to drill out the broken part. Buy the new bearing cause you want that fixed right as it's a PITA to have to do again. I had my plunger out of my old NH 269 and put all new bearings and hay dog springs and pins in it and noticed some previous welding to it. I had to straighten the roller guides and adjust (shim) the hay knifes when I went back together with it. Also when I did mine I installed a new chamber bottom plate, just welded a piece of 10 gauge sheet over what was already there. bjr

Lester,
I sure did get the CD & your card, Thank You. I must apologize, I was working on a rough draft for a book, over the winter & kinda dropped under the radar for a minute. I recently learned of your wife's passing & I'm very sorry to hear it. In light of recent events on this planet, I don't hesitate to say that she is in a better place. So, no need to fret, the two of you are still united in Spirit & that's what counts! Now, if you could keep errant Jeeps off of your trailer, you'd be in good shape! Glad to hear no one was hurt, by the way. Hopefully, the insurance co. will work with you & not against.

Best Regards,
Mike
