John Deere 347 Baler

I am trying to identify the year of a baler. I can't find the serial number anywhere. My dad bought it used in 1994. Can anyone tell me what years these balers were produced and where I might find the serial number?

Either on the front of the bale case or under the right hand knotter on the bale case. If it was under the knotter, it may have rotted off. Look for two 1.8" holes about 3 inches apart.

they were built either in late 70's or early 80's

There are definitely no holes in the front of the baler case. The cover over the knotters has been replaced with a piece of tin but under the knotters themselves, I don't see anything. Do you have a picture you could post? I'm not very familiar with the baler. It belonged to my Dad, who passed away in April. I am trying to get equipment sold and am out of my element. Thanks for your help.

99.9% of people wont care "what year" your baler is. All they will care about is the '347' on the side.Take it to an auction. JD balers always command top dollar.Look on 'Tractor house' for a range of value.Around here,$6000 is average auction price.Manufactured late '80s/early 90s

I agree with DeltaRed. Condition & paint is more important than yr model. I bought my 347 5 or 6 yrs back from an equipment jockey who was a friend of mine. He charged me $5400 for my one owner, low bale count baler. Is baler in question twine or wire?

It's a twine baler. Dad used it 11 years putting up 10,000-15,000 bales a year. Then in 2005 he bought a Case 8545, so the John Deere sat in the shed
except when he wanted to have 2 balers going at a time, which was very rare. The baler is in southern Colorado and with the dry climate and being stored
indoors, it doesn't have any rust. Thanks for the advice.

They were built approximately from 1983 to 1989. Ours is a 1983 wire baler. They can be converted to twine for around a 1000 dollars. A guy that does them replaces the wire tie with a twine tie from a 348 plus a couple other odds and ends.
