J.D. 700 Grinder/Mixer

A Mennonite shop buys and rebuilds used grinder/mixers. They have a JD 700 hydraulic grinder/mixer that appears to be in really good condition. I know the JD mixers were somewhat different than others and just wonder if anyone has had experience with then ? Good / Bad ??? The Mennonites seem to have the ability to source or fabricate almost anything.

I had one. Loved the flat bottom mixer. It didn't matter how wet the corn was,it always unloaded. My biggest complaint was the Rube Goldberg set up of gears in it. Seems like they could have simplified that somehow. It changed direction of rotation too many times. The gears finally got so bad on mine, that's what did it in.

As long as they can make any needed parts. JD dealer told me they don't carry parts for my JD 400 anymore. It is a earlier model. Its been a good grinder for me though. I just hope it last until I get tired of feeding out a few steers every year.

A friend has a 700 that he's been happy with.

I use an old 400 every week. They are pretty tough old mixers. I've never had a flat bottom 700 but it seemed to me that it looked like it had much more capacity (batch size). Someone once told me that when the hammers are worn out the rest of the machine is, too. Mine have been turned once. They can be turned four times, so I guess I am not quite half way done with mine.

Thanks so much fellows !! Much appreciated. Our old Farmhand mill is just plain worn out and we have expanded our sheep flock,so must up date. Once again, thanks for your experiences.
