530 JD baler, Tieing problems

530 JD baler.
Is set to make 5 ft. bale. auto tie cycle starts at 3 ft, then quits when twine arm gets to right side, will not return to home.
Been through the helps in the manual, not coming up with anything that fixes the problem.

Check to be sure ALL five springs are intact & in place on tying system. The reason it's trying to wrap a 3 ft bale is twine operating mechanism isn't resetting(parts 45 should latch on parts key 4) when tailgate is closed. Look for binding mechanism & maybe dirty spool valve on control valve. Sometimes dirt/chaff builds up around top of spool valve causing limited movement of mechanism.

Jim this may sound silly, but I really appreciate your jumping in to help Mr. Miller like this. I had the 530 before I retired from farming
retirement. Then only problem I had with a great baler was the tying. I had no TX. Jim to jump in and save me!

Mr. Miller you are indeed fortunate.

You're not sounding silly to me. I enjoy trying to help people with equipment problems. I think it helps keep my brain cells functioning. The thing I hate is when I make an incorrect statement.

If you were in se Oklahoma I could tell you exactly what is wrong with it. I have been running a 430 for years and have been through that same problem before.

Thanks to both of you. And to neighbors that will come look at things. Turned out that the flow control valve though open, wasn't open enough. I had it narrowed down to a restriction in the hydraulics, was surprised how far open the valve needed to be. Have no explanation for how it got changed from when it was parked last use.

the twine arm not returning home is a separate problem. Make sure item 31 is adjusted correctly and working the twine arm directional valve .

Also make sure the drive roller is turning the pulley for the v belt while tying a bale. Make sure the hex shaft is in good shape on the bottom drive roller. The sprocket on the other side is what drives the shaft that turns the pulley for the v belt.

The spring on the control valve lever solves the 3 ft trip. Without the spring the valve was basically tripped all the time, as soon as it hit 3 ft the baler would tie. Baler can't tie smaller than that.
What I can't figure out is how it worked all last year with that same broken spring.

I'm glad you got your baler going. Thanks for update.

Yes it take approximately 3 ft of hay in baler to tighten spring that put sufficient force on the belt idler pulley to power the twine pump.
