casey in ky hesston 540

Casey how are you liking the 540 you bought. I have only run about 100 bales thru mine this year due to weather. But it has worked great again. I put all new drive chains on it this year and new belt guides. I also added the bale ramps. What a difference in the time it takes to make a bale when you don't have to back up. I would suggest you check on getting a pair for your baler if you don't already have them on it. I found mine on a tractorhouse auctionfor 120.00

We've battled the rain as well. But I have managed a little better than half of my first cutting. But for whatever reason, everybody has been after square bales. I've sold around 2500 squares out of the field so far. I've rolled a total of 16 rolls. What little I've used the 540 I've loved it. It starts a roll easy, no idling down or any of that nonsense, just ease into the hay, and once it sucks some in, your off to the races. I baled in 4th gear on my old Ford with the 8 speed trans, and honestly, that's a perfect match to the tractor. I looked at adding ramps, the kit new from agco is around $500. But I'm going to try and find a used set somewhere first. I think it makes a nice roll. Very comparable to a New Holland 630 I had several years ago, but I honestly beeline the Hesston is a little easier to use. And there's no comparison to the neighbors Vermeer 5400 rebel. I like the hesston 3 to 1 over the Vermeer. He's Vermeer is setting in the barn and the last time I used it the monitor was around 300 bales. It's not used much...maybe it's just not set up correctly. Here's a pic of a couple of rolls from the 540.

Those bales look pretty good. Are they 4x4?
