I had one just like it,had the same beater. Most of the machine was good, but the beater rusted through and went to pieces.

Yeah that beater is strange I've seen them in pictures but all the spreaders I've had New Holland and Knight have the rooster tail beaters.

That type of beater on that 34 was pretty common in this area. I remember a 44 with that style beater on our farm growing up.

That one looks like it's had very little use from all the paint that's still on it. All it is,is sheet metal though. I know from experience that all there is inside is a rod about a half inch diameter that runs the full width in the center of it.

They were good spreaders. It is the same as a 40 only shorter sides. They came with a choice of three beaters,a paddle beater for bedding a 9 inch wide spread and the drum like your pic. The drum was recommended for dairy manure like under a barn cleaner with some straw and lots of soup. It will work for pen pack but do not overload it or unload in a fast speed or you will have piles in your feild. Dad had three when he was milking cows he would trade every two or three years. They were built from the mid 60's untill sometime in the mid to late 80's.Tom

Lol, you got me pal, your right I ment roster comb, Can't imagine where I came up with rooster tail! Lol At least someone is on their toes tonight!

What I can tell you about them is that the farmer that I was working for in the sixties borrowed one once. He used to run two. I got the job of cleaning it out before he returned it. It would have been about 1965.

Check the crankshaft assembly for the floor ratchet. Parts are available but not exactly cheap. Best is if you could load it and use it. chris

I have had a 34 for several years and its has worked very well. Also ran one in the early nineties while working on a farm and I don't recall much trouble. Many of these smaller machines get used as a manure pile which gets unloaded once a week or longer so rust is the real issue. Make sure you check out the cross members and the frame rails!

I've had mine about 8 years, I only use it a couple times a year to spread compost these days, but when I use it I run about 25 loads thru it. I haven't had any trouble except when I load it heavy like pictured the ratchet mech. that runs the apron has too much flex in it and takes a while to start flinging stuff. This is the worst spreader I've run for throwing rocks back at the tractor, I'm not sure if its the beater design or what.

I have one, a model C as I recall (some single letter early in the alphabet), must be one of their early models. Bought it with a ladder chain broken....needed a couple of links......parts at TSC, no problem. Still works great. Wood rotted up front but not in the residue area so it matters not. Keep the wood oiled up and the rest greased good. Keep in the shed out of the weather. The tires are F1s and look like they are OEM by the amount of weather checking...but they still hold air very well.....the tube does.

Mine has the PTO drive down the left side (facing forward) and an open wheel assy where this has the drum. Commenting on functionality, great machines and stood the test of time. Other than the chain, all parts appeared to be OEM and although showing wear, functioning as designed.

I bought mine new in 1970 a year before I sold my cows. I had to wear a rain suit when I used it because it covered both me and the tractor. It didn"t have a tailgate that they said you could raise up to block it from throwing forward.
