Hi, I purchased a NH66 Baler.. and the Short PTO is missing .. looking for ideas on where to get one. .my best option.. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY. . . how long is it? or should it be.

Any place that sells pto driveline parts.Dealers, farm stores.....Hook the baler to the tractor.Do some measureing.Allow for about
6" or so overlap. Make it short enough that it wont bottom out when you turn a corner. If in doubt, buy it a little long. You can
always cut off extra.

If memory serves me right the long one hooks to the flywheel and teleascopes up to a stand with a bearing on it. The short on is just two joints on a solid shaft. Your best bet is to go to a scrap yard and get one off of a used baler. I am pretty sure that ones from a lot newer will work. I know I took one off of a 66 and put it on a 273 one time.

You are correct Bob ... and I was told by a couple other people they think it was a fixed length . .and both ends swivel .. so that's why I'm interested to find out what exact length is was. .. and if maybe someone out there has one I could buy. . I don't know of any scrap yards in my area. .Syracuse NY

correct, the long shaft telescopes - it has to for cornering.

I'd go measure mine, but it's not here at the moment, I'd have to drive to get to it.

floydt when you find the correct length you can go and buy the two correct ends and get a pice of shaft the correct length and weld it together. One thing if you do and do not put a shield on it do not post pictures of it because you will get slaped by correct Nazis.

Well .. right or wrong . .I just purchased off ebay - "John Deere Baler 14T PTO Drive Shaft" -- Looks like it will work. .

The guy says the John Deere shaft will not work. Seems to know what he is talking about I guess. Looked like it would work to me. Maybe it's too long. So thank you for getting me those measurements. 17" - is that the total Length from yoke end to yoke end? Just want to be sure. I'm wondering if I can cut down an old bush hog pto shaft . . are the yokes different. Are some longer allowing it to swivel more when turning. .sorry for my ignorance on this. Here is a picture of the bush hog I could get with the pto shaft. I know there will be no safety on it. .but I could rig up some sheet metal to cover it..
