I H 241 Round Balers

How did you lads get on with the IH 241 round balers. We UK IH dealers had them to sell in the mid 1970s.They were a disaster with a lot of faults the main one being that they would catch fire quite frequently. They got changed for other makes and the dealers who took them in part exchange had them in their yards till the scrapped them. MJ

I didn't see very many of them around. It was mostly Hesston and New Holland in this area in the 70's. The valley now is all big squares with Hesston (Mf) as having the most balers out there with a few New Holland.

I had the later 2400 with double springs, wide belts and hydraulic tie. It was ok once I got used to it, and made pretty tight bales, but if crop wasn't just right it would plug the pick up / closed throat rollers often. I wasn't sad to see it go.....I have a new holland now. On the plus side I guess it never caught fire.

I had one for years. After adding double springs, shortening the upper belts to give a tighter core, and when a sealed bearing went out replacing with greasable bearings, I got along pretty well.

there were several around here the guys could not wait to get rid of them. Most dealers would not take them in trade.
