sickle mower follow up

I took a few pictures of the whole length of cutterbar. Hopefully you can see it better kinda hard to take a good picture. Tell me if y'all can see that gap between the rock guard and sickle. Is that to much? Thanks

That a fine looking dog. Make sure you lock it up when you go to use the sickle bar mower. I worry about my cats when I go to mow hay. They spend time out there catching 13 stripe ground squirrels, voles and mice. Not a situation I want to deal with. gobble

Are there ledger plates in those guards? Can't tell from the picture. If the ledger plates are in place and have a sharp edge, the guards can be (with the right tool and a fine touch) bent to reduce the clearance between the sickle section and the leger plate. The guards are made of malleable iron so they can be bent cold without using heat. Just takes a good eye, the right touch and a little experience to adjust the guards.

We used a length of pipe formed to slip over the ends of the guards to apply pressure -or sometimes removed the guard and adjusted it in the vise.

Those sections look pretty worn to me and if they are Herschel they're not much to start with,I bet if you put in a new blade you'll
solve 90% of your problems. No adjustment can make a dull blade cut better.

the correct casting number is 218 (found cast on the guard finger) and the section, cutter, or knife, hole spacing center to center is 2.065" tractor supply carries them. herschel manufacture country line brand name. does your hold down also act as a wear plate? for what i can see of the bar there is no wear plates in the picture. the plates act as a locator for front to back clearance.
