Ih 800 planting population

I have a ih 800 8 row wide and was shooting for 30000 seeds per acre. I ended up with approx. 38000. I have the manual but am trying to find info on how to get my population right based on the speed I'm traveling. I didn't think ground speed would affect population that much but I am definitely being proved wrong. I have it set on 10/11 17/17. This states 29500 in the book. But I was only traveling at 5mph not 6.7 mph. Are there any other charts available to get me closer to what I want? The best I can come up with is 35000 at 5.6 mph. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there a chart yet on the side of your planter, and also how many cell drum are you using? I think the chart is set for a 36 hole drum and any other you need to do your math to figure out the chart. Let us know what you have!

10/11-17/17 shows 29500 for a 36 hole drum in my manual also. Are you sure the brush wasn't tied back for beans? If the brush isn't in place it will plant doubles on seed corn. Brush needs to be in good shape also. Speed variation doesn't usually contribute to over population. I plant at 6 mph and still stay very close to what the manual says for population.

I agree with case. I had a 400 and the condition of the brush makes a world of difference. Replace the brush and your problems will be over. Sometimes the brush will look good but the "temper" is out of them. Kinda like the bristles on your tooth brush get after a while.

Yes I am running a 36 hole drum.
The brush looks good. I had to adjust it twice early on because I was showing over 36 seeds on the monitor. I did slit of digging in rows to make sure I wasnt getting doubles. I was running h-1 with our 886. I dropped down to L-4 because it was just easier to plant around 5mph vs 6mph. I really didn't pay attention to the speed required till I started digging into this. I am amazed speed traveled could have this kind of difference.

whats the air pressure in the drive tire, that needs to be correct to actually determine your distance of travel. tie a rope around that tire and start driving then get off and actually measure the distance of travel it is doing. you will see the marks from the rope in soil then measure distance. i use to run 12 row 900 series horizontal fold unit when i played in the dirt. and yes the brush all ready mention makes difference and if you have to much seed in the drum will cause issues also.

Thanks for all the help. I sure feel small after I inspected the planter and somehow I had the #1 drive gear wrong. It came loose on the first field and somehow put it back on wrong. What an idiot.
