Need help setting a 5100 grain drill

I am going to use my IH 5100 grain drill for the first time to plant soybeans today. On the levers on the front of the seed box that adjust the seeding rate, which edge of the lever is supposed to mesh with the number on the radius scale? I am not sure and I want to plant my soybeans at number 19 but I am not sure which edge of the lever to set at number 19. Thanks for your help.

Push the lever fully to the left so it is set at zero. Thus, use the left side of the lever for your settings; that is push the lever to the right until the left side of the lever is over the desired number. Fill the seed box fully, sow a round or two, check the acre counter and refill the box, noting how much it took to refill. From that, you can determine your pounds per acre. Adjust your rate from there.
Or, run the drill over your driveway and count the number of seeds per foot in the rows. Depending on your row spacing, determine wether it is too heavy or light and go from there.

What centash said, plus, if setting for a lower population, go all the way back to zero first, then advance to the new lower number.Otherwise, looseness in the linkage will give you an inaccurate setting.

Seed size makes a big difference on amount of seed planted with a drill. Small seed will plant way more than large seed. 2900-3000 seeds per pound will be close to chart numbers. 2400-2500 seeds per pound will have to open drill more. Check population by counting seeds per foot in the drill row.

centash is correct on the left side of lever. Couple other things to consider.
1)make sure the seed cup lever is in the middle notch. That really makes a difference on pop.
2)when beans come up if it is a nice plush looking field then you planted to heavy.

Remove a seed tube and attach a can to collect seeds. Drive a known distance collecting the seeds in the can and then count the seeds. Then you can figure the seeds per foot.

Left side. If you like look closely at the scale, you will see there is room for the lever to go completely past the numbers, so it reads off the left side
