Having problems with a jd 435 baler. Its making 3' rolls. I'm in the field now and help will be greatly appreciated. Last year did fine, first time this year started making the 3 footers!

Could be a loose or maladjusted or funky bale size sensor on the tension arm, or even a broke/chafed wire in the harness .
Your manual should be able to tell you how to test and adjust it.

Electrical switches(sensors) only show what's happening similar to electronic speedometer or fuel gauge. Baler can operate correctly with no monitor attached.

The problem is latch(parts key 45) isn't resetting on bellcrank(parts key 4) when tail gate is closed then when core reaches 3 ft in diameter enough pressure is applied to idler to engage twine pump idler against belt causing twine to pump oil therefore moving twine arm. Are all 5 springs attached and not disfigured?

I bought all five springs and got them in yesterday before I started baling, only replace #5 and # 42 but I will replace the other 3 in a few minutes. The place Im baling was bushoggged last fall. I cut it with a disc mower and when I raked Im pulling up the bushogged material also. I'm getting hay left hanging on my belts, after the bale rolls out then when I close I have to get out and wipe the hay off the belts so it will close and latch. When is closes I have to pull the pump idler down so it make the correct size bales. Am I giving you enough to tell me what's wrong? Is it the other springs I have put on yet?

It's been many yrs since I owned a 435 and I have no 435 tech manual BUT something in the mechanism is binding if the latch isn't relatching when gate is closed if springs are GOOD. When spring pressure is released on belt sheave idler arm it should move freely. Have you been frequently greasing zerk(parts key 2)? Is brush hogged grass damp causing sticking to belts?

Just put the rest of the springs on didn't change. I greased all the parts with "PB" to start with and then came back with grease with a gun. When I have to push down the pump idler pulley its has some resistance. Does it suppose to go down easy? What other mechanism is suppose to pull it down to latch? All the grasses I am baling is dry not damp. But every time it gets done tying and I dump a bale. I have to push down the pump idler bar. ??? Could the grease fitting area have some rust or build up that causes it not to latch freely(Idler pump Pully)?

Is your bale size adjustment moving? Once my father adjusted the bale size, and for some reason thought that it shouldnt move. So he tightened it down tight.
It sheared a roll pin behind the adjustment. took me a couple hours to figure out.

Changed all 5 springs made no difference. Brought it out of the field tonight washed it all down to try to find the problem. When I push the idler
pump arm down to latch it will bale what ever size bale I have set it on.

I think you located your problem. That arm should freely move. Because it's not easily seen that grease zerk has a history of not getting greased regularly.
